Moerane Musical Tribute Date: 19 March 2010 Michael Moerane, a brother to former President Thabo Mbeki’s mother, was the first black music graduate to be produced in South Africa in the 1940’s. Emerging at a time marked by racial segregation, the then apartheid authorities would not acknowledge Moerane’s talent and charisma as a conductor in music, inter alia orchestra, as this genre mainly comprised whites only.
