Juliana Meredith
Boutique Owner
Juliana and Michael Meredith live and work in what many people would consider as being a small piece of paradise. Nestled in the lee of the Kasteelberg Mountain is a business that has become the de facto source of incredible olive products. Known as the Riebeeck Olive Boutique this amazingly successful business started in Juliana’s lounge just ten years ago, is now one of the most well known olive businesses in South Africa. Living alongside her business Juliana is able to stroll to work each morning (no road-rage) viewing the ever changing landscape of olives, grapes and wheat all produced in the area. “It is brilliant to be able to operate a business in an environment that offers such a diversity of life; on a typical day I can see and hear fish eagles, shout at the porcupines stealing my vegetables, and end the day sitting on my stoep, drinking an excellent glass of locally produced wine and watching the sun disappear behind the mountain”, says Juliana. Juliana is also a herb garden witch and enjoys making medicinal remedies for her Herbal Apothecary.

What makes the Olive Boutique Unique?
“Our passion for everything OLIVE !! Michael and I believe that a good life is all about good olives good wine and great friends. Now close your eyes .......... and imagine your day filled with olives and olive oil. In the shower, lather your body with a bar of Olive Oil soap and wash your hair with Olive Oil shampoo for that ultimate shine. It is breakfast time and you are enjoying a slice of warm toast spread with Olive Tapenade and a perfectly poached free range egg on top. Between breakfast and lunch, snack on a few Kalamata olives in a Blueberry dressing. At lunchtime sit down with a loaf of fresh bread and a bowl of Tsakistes, cracked green olives soaked in Olive oil, Lemon juice, garlic and coriander. Open a 2009 Sauvignon Blanc and wash it all down. Mid afternoon and you are a bit peckish - on a Provita, spread the Green Olive mustard topped with beef biltong, as only the country folk can make it. For dinner, de-pip a jar of Roasted Kalamata olives with Lavender & White truffle oil, heat it with a cup of superior Extra Virgin Olive oil, garlic, chilli and mix into tagliatelle pasta. Serve with the best wooded Chardonnay. Before re-tiring, enjoy a glass of the South African Port and a slice of Olive Chocolate Salami. Invite your partner for a sensual massage with the best and silkiest massage oil – Extra Virgin Olive Oil infused with Patchouli, Geranium and Lavender. Fall into a deep relaxing sleep, dreaming of your Ultimate Olive Experience”.

How will 2010 Soccer affect the tranquillity of the twin villages Riebeeck Kasteel and Riebeeck West?
“If you are a patriotic full blooded South African, you might be sitting on an anthill in the Karoo, but you will be affected by the soccer. As a nation we have the opportunity to showcase our beautiful people and country to the world and we in the Riebeeck Valley are going to use it in as many ways possible. It is not just Olive Oil that can be Swirled, Sniffed, Slurped and Swallowed ! Bafana Bafana will not disappoint the South African soccer fans”.
